Padel Rules

Everything you need to know to play padel

Basic Rules of Padel

1. The Court

A padel court is 20m x 10m, enclosed by walls of glass and metallic mesh. The court is divided by a net and has service boxes similar to tennis.

2. Scoring

Scoring is the same as tennis: 15, 30, 40, game. Matches are typically best of 3 sets, with a tie-break at 6-6.

3. Serving

  • The serve must be underhand, with the ball bouncing before being struck
  • The ball must be hit at or below waist level
  • The serve must land in the opponent's diagonal service box
  • Players get two serves per point

4. Playing the Ball

  • The ball can bounce off any wall after hitting the ground
  • Players can hit the ball against the glass walls on their own side
  • The ball can only bounce once on the ground before being returned
  • Players cannot hit the ball directly into the opponent's walls

5. Winning Points

Points are won when:

  • The ball bounces twice on the opponent's side
  • The opponent hits the ball into the net
  • The opponent hits the ball outside the playing area
  • The opponent hits the ball directly into their own walls or fence

6. Let and Fault Rules

A let is called when the ball touches the net and lands in the correct service box. Service faults occur when the ball doesn't land in the correct box or hits the wire fence before bouncing.
