The History of Padel

Padel has a fascinating history that spans over five decades.

The Beginning

Padel was invented in 1969 by Enrique Corcuera in Acapulco, Mexico. He adapted his squash court by adding walls and lowering the net.

Spread to Spain

In the 1970s, Corcuera's friend Alfonso de Hohenlohe brought the sport to Marbella, Spain. It quickly gained popularity among the elite.

Professional Era

The World Padel Tour was established in 2005, professionalizing the sport and attracting top talent from around the world.

Global Growth

Today, padel is played in over 90 countries. Spain leads with over 20,000 courts, and the sport continues to grow rapidly across Europe, South America, and beyond.
